Short Films: “Thank You” - 60s

‘We’ll Meet Again’’s strong showing in the lockdown charts continues with this short film by director Marie Lanna. As a muted cover of Vera Lynn’s wartime anthem plays in the background, we’re introduced to some of London’s essential workers, including shopkeepers, postal workers, and the emergency services.

DP Jaime Feliu Torres’s black-and-white photography is sombre yet inviting, while the script emphasises people’s willingness to act during troubled times. Expressions of gratitude like this are a fundamental part of the so-called ‘new normal’, and doubtless there are plenty more of these thank-you notes - whether amateur or professional - to come.
