The Geek Shall Inherit The Earth

by Syd Briscoe

Pizza Pops: “What a Time to Be Weird” - 2 mins 23s

Canadian snack brand Pizza Pops encourage us to embrace our inner oddball... and give an extremely astute rundown of how popular culture has changed over the last few decades in the process. From traditionally nerdy hobbies like tabletop RPGs and comic book collecting entering the mainstream, to cosplay and fandom engagement becoming damn near acceptable, this short highlights all the ways that being 'weird' is now, well, not weird.

While some pockets of geek culture have resisted an expanded audience (particularly when they're used as the butt of the joke), this film is executed with such affection it feels impossible to object to. From puppets to animation to microwavable calzones, weirdos are coming up with the best new ideas which might actually be - cue drumroll - cool.
