NatWest: “Pennies” - 40s

Look after the pennies and the pounds... well, you know the rest. That's the premise of this this peppy commercial for NatWest, which features a girl feeling the first flushes of confidence from having money in her pocket - or in her hands, more accurately.

There's a lovely central performance from the confident youngster, who struts through a supermarket car park with her new-found riches saved from a trolley. Her glances to camera and cheeky magic tricks are winningly played, and will remind many viewers of the juvenile elation of having one's own cash for the first time.

Itís also an effective way to draw attention to the bank's Money Sense lessons - which teach young people the ins and outs of simple finance - and the dad asking for his quid back will also prepare youngsters for the inevitable disappointment of taxation. Two lessons in one.
