Hand Solo

by Andrew MacGregor

Marika Hackman: “Hand Solo” - 3 mins 51s

Viewers may never look at the London Eye the same way again after this carnal and deeply enjoyable promo for Marika Hackman's ode to masturbation, 'Hand Solo'. Across four inventive minutes, director Sam Bailey recasts familiar items and locations as things to be fondled, fingered, and fucked.

As digits have their wicked way with everything from plugholes to the eye of a hurricane, singer-songwriter Hackman offers a frank and tactile account of life under "creased sheets", playfully adding: "I dig for life in the isle of my thighs".

Bookended by written contributions from sex author Susie Bright and several anonymous commenters, the promo wittily celebrates and justifies female masturbation in all its forms. Those who yearn for a saucier Great British Bake Off are in for a treat, too.
