You Don't Know

by Andrew MacGregor

Loyle Carner: “You Don't Know (ft. Rebel Kleff & Kiko Bun)” - 4 mins 21s

Family matters to Loyle Carner - in fact, this promo for ‘You Don't Know' stars the rapper's own mum, Jean, as she embarks on a series of hit-and-miss first dates. While she wines and dines with a cast of sweet talkers and spaghetti slurpers, son Loyle plays undercover wingman in a variety of guises.

Zipping between chef, barman, diner, waiter, and cab driver, Carner keeps a beady eye on his mum whilst laying out his own relationship doubts: "Just know you clouded my guts, going down on his luck/But now I sit in a hurry, worried nuts that I bust".

Director Louis Bhose juggles both aspects well, with snappy cuts and an eclectic cast (poet Benjamin Zephaniah cameos as a potential suitor) producing an oddly touching spin on the dating game.
