Pick Me Up

by Syd Briscoe

Lola Young: “Pick Me Up” - 3 mins 40s

This intriguing promo for Lola Young's latest track 'Pick Me Up' takes a deep dive into the emotional aftermath of a break-up. Combining a muted colour palette with the singer's confrontational performance, it takes a sideways look at the world through unusual shot composition to represent a life turned upside down.

As lipstick is smeared and clothes are tossed aside, Young is a grounding presence as she sings about being discarded by a partner with too little care (“I could be queen/But you crushing my crown”). With a slightly surreal edge and an overall refined aesthetic, this is a hypnotic promo which draws the viewer in and refuses to let them go.
