Snap to it.

Lexus: “Sunrise to Sunrise” - 60s

South Africa-based photographer Elsa Bleda is the focal point of this terrific commercial for Lexus. There's no sign that director Georgi Banks-Davies was daunted by the idea of building a film around someone famous for creating her own striking images... on the contrary she has risen to the challenge by furnishing this TVC with her own impressive photography.

A more languid edit would probably demonstrate the skill of Banks-Davies and cinematographer Kenji Katori to an even greater extent. Even so, there is a lot to like here even as the pace of the second half makes it difficult to appreciate the love that's gone into each of the images that have been captured. Drawing from a colour palette of neon hues, vivid brake lights, and twilight flourishes, an otherwise staid proposition has been given some impressive visual firepower.

Bleda is the right kind of cool for Lexus, and the film does a great job of balancing photographer and car to pitch the latter as the kind of vehicle designed to appeal to punters with an appreciation of the former.
