Christmas in 3D

by Syd Briscoe

HP: “Print the Holidays” - 60s

Most of us could do with taking a step back from social media at any given time of the year, but HP suggest it's particularly vital at Christmas. With a tech-focused riff on The Twelve Days of Christmas driving the action, the brand show viewers the contrast between a screen-filled and screen-less holiday.

While it may seem hypocritical for a tech company to snipe about the evils of smartphones (particularly when the physically-printed images featured at the end were, presumably, snapped on said device), this film will resonate with many families who find their quality time swallowed up in favour of streaming, swiping, and liking.

Lovely production design and lively performances delivered add to the proposition, as the digital world is nixed in favour of more physical crafts and activities. Advocates of a paperless society may balk, but the value of an extended screen break is communicated with verve regardless.
