Concrete Pony

by Andrew MacGregor

Ghostpoet: “Concrete Pony” - 4 mins 06s

This Ghostpoet video feels like a left-field Dulux commercial. Shot with oily flair by director Thomas James, ‘Concrete Pony’ sees Obaro Ejimiwe gradually consumed by sentient black ooze. So much for a quiet day in the flat, eh?

Given two of Ghostpoet’s previous albums are called ‘Shedding Skin’ and ‘Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam’, it’s perhaps fitting that James leans towards viscosity like he does - and it pays off disturbingly well.

From the artist’s monochrome bedsit to glimpses at an ‘Under the Skin’-style nether realm, the promo matches the song’s velvety bleakness with its own assortment of horrors. A striking reminder not to ignore that stain on the ceiling.
