Around The Block

by Syd Briscoe

Ford Puma: “Blocks” - 50s

Ford make a creative effort to outwit security cameras in this artistic ad. Pixellation is the name of the game, as the advertised vehicle scrambles its own exterior before an image can be captured.

It's an intriguing concept, executed with precision and lovely VFX work as it becomes apparent that the blocks covering the car are, in fact, solid. Seeing them shed like so many scales is oddly satisfying, as is the bemusement of a passing security guard.

A thumping soundtrack and gentle clinking from the falling blocks rounds things off nicely in the audio department, giving the whole ad a tactile quality. It's eye-catching stuff, although we're not sure such a tactic will make an appearance in the next Bond movie.
