The Dazzler

by Andrew MacGregor

Ex:Re: “The Dazzler” - 4 mins 49s

Ex:Re is the solo guise of Daughter frontwoman Elena Torena, and her latest track ‘The Dazzler' explores the "cheap thrills of hotels" with aching insight. Subject matter like this is a gift to any capable promo director, and filmmaking duo Iain & Jane have responded with an arresting vision of a late night breakdown.

The unfortunate casualty (played by Maxine Peake) writhes in drunken torment as Ex:Re appears spectre-like through the television set. Bathed in neon hues whilst simultaneously aroused and repulsed by her being, Peake delivers a riveting central performance as the bluesy track develops into something more ethereal.
