Humans, Being

by Syd Briscoe

Department of Health & Social Care: “Our NHS People” - 60s

The unsung heroes who keep the NHS running through thick and thin are celebrated in this touching ad from the Department of Health & Social Care. From providing life-saving critical care at the scene of an accident to making the time to chat about a patient's worries, this film covers a wide range of positions and services in a respectful 60".

Director Tom Tagholm strikes an astute balance here, mixing poignancy with brevity to underline the sheer scope of what healthcare staff are up against in a truly national health service. Given current public panic around COVID-19, it's a worthwhile reminder that the system runs on a very human engine. We can only hope enough is done to keep it running.
