Macho Moves

by Syd Briscoe

Dazed: “Move Like a Man” - 2 mins 44s

This forward-thinking film for Dazed looks at the evolution of modern masculinity through the medium of dance. Director Bunny Kinney's subjects are a collection of masculine-aligned individuals who express themselves with their bodies, and candidly discuss what being a man means to them in the here and now.

Splashy on-screen text highlights key phrases as the dancers explain their feelings, the fluidity of their movements matching the shifting nature of what masculinity means in their lives. At once personal and achieving a detached sense of cool in the distance between performer and audience, this is a thought-provoking watch for the masculine and feminine alike.
