Dancing On Ice: “The Bear and the Squirrel” - 60s

ITV has created a winning tradition around the annual launch of 'Dancing on Ice' and this year's is another winner. Reflecting the programme's own awakening from hibernation, a polar bear emerges from its winter retreat to discover the first signs of spring, only to be thrown on to a frozen lake by a slight mishap, which also causes a squirrel to come crashing on to the ice.

The pair's attempts to scramble to safety turns into a dance of sorts, and before they know it, they've crashed triumphantly into the snow. It's a beautifully rendered piece of animation by director Kirk Hendry, and utilises the animal magic of FABLEfx for the first time in the UK.

Working with ITV Creative, the assembled production maestros have created film which both reminds the audience of the comic value of watching inexperienced dancers stepping tentatively on to the ice for the first time, and the romantic thrill of seeing them succeed later in the competition.
