Goodwill to all?

by Andrew MacGregor

Coronation Street: “Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town” - 60s

Christmas in Soapland rarely goes off without a hitch. Try an explosion, a deadly storm, or a bust of Queen Victoria to the face instead. Sure enough, this 60" promo for Coronation Street brims with bad tidings as the cast pile into the Rovers Return for a festive tipple.

This may be an ensemble piece, but director Caswell Coggins is mostly concerned with double murderer Dean Windass (Mikey North), who looks like a man whose pint has been spilt once too often.

You don't need to be a Corrie buff to know the shit's going to hit the fan this Christmas, as Windass opens a presentation box with a bullet inside. If ‘Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town' didn't sound mildly threatening before, it does now.
