A Whole New World

by Syd Briscoe

Comic Relief: “Wise Words” - 2 mins

Comic Relief strike a heartfelt tone in this charming film, drawing attention to the charity's thirty-odd years of fund-raising. A grandfather (Peter Mullan) spends the day at home with his newborn grandson, delivering pearls of wisdom about the weird world the lad's been born into.

Directing team thirtytwo handle the film with a delicate touch, ensuring moments of levity and tenderness land with the same emotional punch. The ad also has a pleasantly grainy aesthetic; a photographic quality which gives it a timeless feel appropriate to the narrative.

It's a touching approach to take, given all the more weight by the divided atmosphere into which it's released. It's nice to be reminded that the country has been able to come together for good before... and may yet do so again.
