Wake-up call.

by Jason Stone

Coca Cola: “First Date” - 45s

Claire needs limitless patience with hapless Ian on their first date in this new film for Coca Cola - one of four highlighting the drink's propensity to promote wakefulness. After talking about himself for a solid three hours and forty-five minutes, the poor lad is so exhausted that he falls asleep in the middle of the street. Fortunately for him, Claire knows exactly what to do... administering the advertised drink as though it's a medicinal elixir, she sorts him out after a few glugs.

Beautifully lit and with an evocative soundtrack, these films offer the audience a reminder that Coca Cola has a legacy for been providing punters with energy which predates all these johnny-come-latelies like Red Bull. Claire's reluctant acceptance of Ian's mansplaining tendencies makes for a very modern fairy tale, and an agreeable shift towards storytelling for one of advertising's great brands.
