After The Beep

by Syd Briscoe

Canal+: “The Big Set” - 90s

Here it is, folks - the final, climactic outing to Canal+'s Netflix-negating content platform. Or, er, anti-climactic, as the case turns out to be.

Director Martin Werner has navigated a tricky scenario here: after dedicating a campaign to trashing Netflix, Canal+ signed a deal with them at the last minute. Thus, this extra instalment has to tread the precarious line of announcing the new partnership without rendering the previous ads redundant... and manages beautifully.

Once again the action takes place behind the scenes, with star Kad Merad looking for answers after decor and actors from Netflix classics such as Stranger Things and Orange is the New Black start popping up around set. A final gag about the traditional use of the censorship beep ties things up nicely, ending the campaign on a well-deserved high note.
