Llama Drama

by Syd Briscoe

Bosch: “Spit” - 80s

This intriguing ad for Bosch from director Matthew Swanson shows that terror can strike at any time. A bloke finds himself stalked by a threatening llama, constantly looking over his shoulder only to be greeted with a cold stare and a targeted wad of spit.

Swanson and DP Bobby Shore nail the horror vibe, creating a sense of increasing dread while sprinkling moments of levity throughout to ease the tension. The result is extremely amusing, particularly when the man's attempts to escape his woolly pursuer become ever more slapstick.

Needless to say, the llama is a mere foil for what the brand are actually advertising, but the ad's surreal humour is made all the more effective for it. Heavy rainstorms or freak llama attacks, one thing is clear: Bosch are ready to rise to the occasion.
