Christ Flow

by Alice May

Barny Fletcher: “Christ Flow” - 2 mins 14s

If we didn't know any better, and nearly sixteen years hadn't passed since Brookside's death rattle gurgled to its toe-curling conclusion, we'd swear that Tin Head had turned to rap instead of the, er, ukulele.

But we have it on good authority that this fresh-faced young dude is definitely Barny Fletcher, and his track 'Christ Flow' bubbles with that barely-contained, feelgood frenzy last heard in the '90s after Madchester exploded.

By his own admission, the title is nonsensical - as is much of the song itself. Yet that's part of its charm. Taichi Kimura's brilliantly energetic promo captures the mood and then some; shooting on a budget in a tiny Asian supermarket which miraculously stays intact despite Fletcher's flailing limbs and some insane trolley-dashing. Not to mention a brief rest in a chiller cabinet.

It's exuberant, exhilarating and enjoyable... a trio of adjectives we need more of in this po-faced world of political uncertainty and disillusion.
