Barclays: Click and regret.

by Andrew MacGregor

Barclays: “Supercon” - 30s

Frazzled parents have another ‘must-have’ toy to purchase. Well, not quite. Evoking every sugar-fuelled toy commercial you care to mention, this 30” Barclays ad introduces Supercon - a well-armed and surprisingly honest space ranger.

The action figure goes off-script and admits his £1.99 price tag is a scam. Those naive enough to order from an unsecured website risk more than a disappointed child on Christmas Day.

Playful character design belies a serious message. Whether we’re savvy online shoppers or not, the advertised bank urge caution while sifting through festive offers. After all, we can’t rely on consumer-friendly space robots to save us every time.
