Bank of Melbourne: “Penguins” - 60s

An intrepid penguin decides to try its hand (sorry, flipper) at life in the big city in this fun ad for the Bank of Melbourne. As its brethren stick to the beach, the protagonist hits the streets of Melbourne in search of gainful employment.

Aptly scored by Gang Starr's ‘Work', the ad mines humour from the CG penguin's numerous vocations - some of which the bird is more suited to than others. Still, you never know until you try.

The advertised bank wish to instil this can-do attitude into more of its customers - say, when applying for a loan. We like to think at least one applicant will admit the penguin made them do it.
