Love on the brain.

Aldi: “Valentine's Dinner” - 20s

Unlike a Tinder date from hell or weapons-grade aftershave, Aldi’s Valentine’s Day plug doesn’t outstay its welcome. What we get is a nimble 20” balancing act between product and comedy, as a woman describes her Valentine’s meal from the night before. Unfortunately, she’s picked a less than receptive audience.

Valentine’s Day ads rarely stick in the memory, but agency McCann Manchester and director Stuart Elliot have made a commendable effort here. A game lead performance and a bemused supporting cast do the concept justice, while strong tabletop photography makes pudding, steak, and roses look more sophisticated than you expect from a budget supermarket.
