Simon French joins Electric Theatre Collective.

by Andrew MacGregor

Simon French has joined Electric Theatre Collective as their new Joint Head of CG.

French joins after a fruitful spell at Framestore. Now he’s raring to lead Electric Theatre’s CG team alongside Dean Robinson. As luck would have it, the pair know each other from university. Always good to see a friendly face on your first day.

What made Electric Theatre swoop? It’s been a busy period for the post house. Having launched production company Friends Electric in 2017, Electric Theatre aim to consolidate their VFX prowess - that’s where French comes in.

He’s spearheaded CG work on numerous ads, notably this Galaxy commercial ‘starring’ Audrey Hepburn. French and his team evoked Hollywood’s Golden Age via painstaking CG. As visual effects become ever more sophisticated, French is keen to explore new possibilities.

Now that’s star power. What else has French worked on? Alongside commercials, French enjoys promo and film work. For instance, he contributed to Bond flick Spectre’s opening titles. Tentacles writhe and deathly imagery dominates as we’re introduced to the eponymous cabal.

Good work. What’s the word from Electric Theatre Collective? According to their press release, French "has been impressed with the company’s creative flair, visionary style, and ambition."

Furthermore, he “joins at an extremely exciting time and relishes all the opportunities that Electric Theatre has to offer.”
