A double header at Fat Lemon.

by Syd Briscoe

Fat Lemon have underlined their commitment to rising talent thanks to a brace of new signings.

The first of the two up-and-coming directors is Shimmy Ahmed, who began directing commercials last year and also shoots fashion content. British-Nigerian director Shola Amoo is next on the list, who is at Sundance this year with his second feature film.

1. Shimmy Ahmed

Berkshire-born and London-based, Shimmy Ahmed is a filmmaker known for her aesthetic brio and distinctive ability to connect with audiences on both a visual and emotional level.

Her work straddles the comedy and fashion worlds, combining canny art direction with colourful performances and a witty sense of humour. She is currently writing her first feature film, aiming to bring her characteristic visual flare to the big screen.

2. Shola Amoo

Amoo graduated from the National Film and Television School with his award-winning film 'Touch'. He's since directed everything from feature films to theatre, having been commissioned by the British Council to direct a reinterpretation of Othello called 'Dear Mr Shakespeare'.

While he hasn't directed any commercials yet, Fat Lemon are confident in the young director's future. Until then, check out his arresting visual style in this trailer for his first feature film 'A Moving Image' - a heartfelt look at race and identity across generations.
